Hsin-Ting Weng's design draws inspiration from the French philosopher Gaston Bachelard's work, "The Poetics of Space". The design aims to evoke a sense of stability and poise, achieved through the use of contrasting and dramatic design elements. The project is a response to the growing trend against ostentatious interior decoration, focusing instead on the fusion of vintage remembrance with contemporary aesthetics.
The Verse of Tact stands out for its sustainable approach. The design reduces construction phases and reuses residual material, aligning with the current trend towards sustainability. The design incorporates a variety of materials, including a coarse-textured cement finish made from up-cycled residues and sediments of local reservoirs, botanic-print wallpapers, and oxidized brass paneling. The use of emerald marble and floral patterns on decorative glasses adds a touch of indigenous connection.
The design was realized over a period from October 2019 to July 2020 in Taichung city, Taiwan. The open-concept living area is spacious and uncluttered, encompassing the sofa, piano, audio devices, and dining section. The en-suite master bedroom and adjoining rooms are arranged in a lateral layout, providing a sense of continuity and flow.
One of the challenges faced during the design process was integrating wasted stone slabs and wood planks with tiling in the flooring patterns of the living areas. The alignment of each material on the floor was a crucial and arduous task, but the result is a testament to the designer's attention to detail and commitment to sustainability.
The Verse of Tact was awarded Bronze in the A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2021, a prestigious recognition for outstanding and creatively ingenious designs. The design is a testament to Hsin-Ting Weng's ability to combine art, science, design, and technology to improve quality of life and contribute to a better world.
